5-Minute Mood-Boosting Breakfast

Every day can be a potential minefield of mood boosting or busting factors, especially when you live in a bustling city. And while getting enough sleep, exercising regularly and myriad emotional factors are at play here, nutrition is certainly key. No wonder this quick, healthy breakfast smoothie recipe by Nutrition Stripped caught our eyes… As the saying goes, start as you mean to go on.

Cacao Coffee Protein Smoothie by Nutrition Stripped

A double whammy of banana and cacao makes this a go-to to start a busy day on a high. Bananas are a healthy source of carbohydrates and vitamin B6, as well as the amino acid tryptophan. When these three get together, it equals increased levels of the hormone serotonin, which has been shown to result in better moods. What’s more, dark chocolate is another serotonin-friendly food and has also been shown to boost endorphin levels.

Blend 1 frozen banana, 1/2 cup of blueberries, 2 tablespoons of cacao powder, 1 cup of almond milk, 2 tablespoons of chia seeds, 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder (optional) and 1/2 cup freshly brewed coffee into desired consistency. Either chill the coffee prior to adding to the other ingredients or add ice to the blender.
