Following BarChick’s recommendations for where to retox post-class at our King’s Cross fitness and yoga studios, we had to get the 411 on their favourites within easy travel distance to the Victoria studio…
Clarendon Cocktail Cellar
Pinned down a date with hottie from Box-Fit? Nice. Take them ‘round the corner to this wicked basement bar, with tin tile ceilings and vintage marine lamps. Each cocktail comes with a coaster depicting the artwork that inspired it, there’s an Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans one, and if you dare, Edward Munch’s The Scream. The clincher? Free bacon dust popcorn – and that alone is worth the trip.
First Aid Box
Ok so you’ve gotta hop on a train (Uber) to Herne Hill, but oh boy is it worth it; this is one of our favourite-ever hangouts. The baby bro of Brixton’s Shrub and Shutter, this breezy bar is all about healthier and medicinal style botanical cocktails served up in cool sh*t like intravenous fluid bags and syringes. Team your ‘prescription’ with ceviche, carpaccio and terrines alongside salads and fresh locally sourced vegetables. Your instructor would approve.
Grand Imperial Bar
If you can’t feel your legs post Gliders, no sweat… You can practically roll into this place straight from the gym. It’s everything we love about a bar: it’s slick in a non pretentious way, the crowd are classy but chill, and they serve up authentic Chinese spirits, kick ass dim sum and Blossom Hill (it’s a beer cocktail, obviously).
Low, Slow & Juke
A shining neon beacon in a pretty drab part of town, head out onto Victoria street, and keep an eye out for the glowing sign. Make your way down to a high-ceilinged basement and immerse yourself in a “1930s New Orleans meets Bladerunner’s Los Angeles circa 2019″ kinda scenario. Yeah. Their smoked cocktails, thanks to their bar-top smoking gun, are the star of the show and we can’t get enough.
No.11 Pimlico Road
Just a stroll down the road is this bright and airy hangout with a beautiful bar for perching alongside. Kick back with the seriously long cocktail menu (we love the Chase Marmalade Champagne), or if you’ve got your heart set on something in particular, go off piste – the bartenders are badass and will mix up whatever you’re into.
After five years of telling you about the best bars in the city BarChick have just launched a new app where you can also chat to a BarChick anytime to get personalised recommendations… And then let them book you in. It’s like having your very own boozing PA.
The app is coming to Android soon but in the meantime hit up their concierge service or get chatting at BarChick.com. We’ll race ya to the bar…
