Ahead of our big W6 debut on 27th January (Timetable opens for bookings on 15th January – MARK THOSE CALENDARS), we polled our in-the-know Framers to give us the low down on the best cafes, restaurants, pubs and more in the Hammersmith area. Read up on where to go before and after class…
BEST FOR: AVOCADO TOAST
Antipode is as the name suggests: an Aussie-inspired coffee shop less than 5 minute walk from Hammersmith tube, housed in petite, very cool digs serving top-notch flat whites and a host of fresh plates. Think avocado toast pimped up with beetroot-cured salmon, yummy grain-based salads and Shakshouka, plus pastries and snacks for those of you on the go. Recommended by @rvkendrick on Instagram.
BEST FOR: HEALTHY PUB GRUB
We love The Hampshire Hog’s refreshingly healthy take on pub food. Sure, (organic, high quality) Sausage & Mash and Steak & Chips are still staples on the menu, but Pan-Fried Seabass, Courgetti and salads round out the options (even during Sunday Lunch). Recommended by @jujussie on Instagram.
BEST FOR: GRAB & GO
You’ll never have to frequent the chains again with Truth’s gourmet takeaway sandwiches and wraps, with both healthy and indulgent options to choose from. It’s bang next to Hammersmith tube so no need for a special trip. They also whip up fresh juices and smoothies, plus stacks of pancakes and waffles (savoury with eggs or classically sweet with fruit compote) if you have time to linger. Recommended by @rvkendrick on Instagram.
BEST FOR: POST-FRAME COCKTAILS
You’ve got to bus it toward Turnham Green for this one, but for a local dinner and drinks filled eve, there’s no better option than perching on No197 Chiswick Fire Station’s grey velvet barstools sipping a Grapefruit Rickey before cosying up on the millennial pink sofas to dine on their modern bistro-style menu. We’re also partial to the Beef Brisket Sunday “Roast”… Recommended by @hamartivosova on Instagram.
BEST FOR: CREPES
It might be a stone’s throw from Hammersmith tube, but the story behind La Petite Bretagne began in France’s Brittany region where the owner’s grandmother whipped up galletes every Sunday. We’re into lunch dates over ham and egg crepes but there’s a whole host of savoury and sweet toppings to choose from. If you’re not going for the crepes a) we can’t be friends and b) there’s also salads available to eat in or takeaway. Recommended by @imenebewild on Instagram.
BEST FOR: FREELANCERS WITH LAPTOPS
With four locations across London, Artisan Coffee is a firm fave everywhere it’s put its roots down. And when you’re pouring perfectly frothed cappuccinos and piles of pastries in a light-filled cafe with laptop-friendly tables, well, you’re a freelancer’s dream. Closer to Stamford Brook tube than Hammersmith but the best option for office-less Framers to find their focus. Recommended by @imenebewild on Instagram.
BEST FOR: WHEN THE SUN FINALLY COMES OUT
It’s a brisk 15 minute walk away, but it’s worth the added workout to nab a table at The Crabtree. With its riverside location and huge beer garden, you’ll want to book for a prime spot on the water come summer, but don’t think that’s all this upmarket pub has going for it… The menu is all about seasonal, classic ingredients, combined in the most perfect yummy ways. Whipped cannellini beans and tahini? Thought so. Recommended by @claire.louise.wright on Instagram.
BEST FOR: RAW FOOD YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO EAT
With its tropical flair, Rainforest Creations’ stall at the Thursday Hammersmith Food Market is a very welcome change from the usual suspects of the raw and whole food world… And a surefire way to stay virtuous after your Frame class. Choose a salad box or Roti wrap filled with expertly-spiced arrangements of veg, lentils and healthy dressings and top it off with a ‘sweet’ made entirely of fruit and veg. Recommended by @princessp19 on Instagram.
BEST FOR: CATCHING UP WITH FRIENDS
Rated West London’s best cafe and coffee shop by TimeOut London in 2015, family business The Blue Corner serves up a menu absolutely chocka with inventive and delish egg-based combos suited for everyone from the meatiest meat eater (hello, chorizo!) to veggie fans wanting options other than avo (I mean, why, but also #sauteedmushroomsftw). The lunch crowd benefits from daily soup and sandwich creations, too. Recommended by @park_yoga_girl on Instagram.
BEST FOR: WHATEVER YOUR HEART DESIRES
With the redevelopment of the King’s Mall comes not just Frame but also a decidedly modern take on the food court vibes. From the people behind Pergola On The Roof comes Feast Canteen: a hall open breakfast to late night with options like Born & Raised, Patty & Bun, Breddos Tacos and Salvation in Noodles. Keep up to date with the rest of the line up on their Facebook page.
And there you have it! We can’t wait to come westside and eat, drink and Frame our way through the days… Learn more about our Hammersmith opening and sign up for a free class pass here.
