If you love yoga but are confused as to all the different styles, you’re not alone. Our yoga girl Katarina Rayburn talks us through one of the most popular styles of yoga, Vinyasa. Take it away Katarina!

What is Vinyasa?

Vinyasa is one of the most popular types of yoga. There are many styles of vinyasa but essentially it is a dynamic practice linking the breath to movement. Students will use movement and breath in sync to flow from one posture to another.

What are the benefits?
Focus – In a Vinyasa flow class you’re not only focusing on the physical postures, but also on the breath. Tuning into the sound and pace of the breath focuses the mind, it sets the metronome for your practice.

Strength – Working through a moving sequence and incorporating difficult postures such as arm balances, backbends and inversions will increase your physical strength, endurance and ability.

Flexibility – All the postures in a Vinyasa class will get you moving, stretching and elongating your muscles, improving your mobility. A physical yoga practice makes space in the body leaving you feeling much more open and supple.

Stress Relief – By linking the movement to your breath you are connecting your body to your mind, the practice becomes a moving meditation. This allows you to forget about everything else that’s going on around you and just focus on your practice, it quietens the mind and softens the body leaving you feeling de-stressed.

Who is it for?
If you want a workout, whilst also increasing your strength and flexibility, if you want to relieve stress, or if you want to challenge yourself physically then go to a Vinyasa flow class!
