Carlie began practising yoga in 2005, at first to enable her to maintain the flexibility she gained as a gymnast. However, she soon realised that yoga was guiding her to be a more compassionate, mindful and spiritual individual. She has engaged with many different yoga styles, but was found her calling with Dharma yoga and trained with the guru Sri Dharma Mittra in New York.
Her teaching is from the heart, inspired by both her personal practice and a dedication to seeking to understand the needs of her students. Individuals are guided through a devotional asana sequence, that they are encouraged to experience as an active meditation. Carlie’s classes incorporate strong vinyasa sequences and stationary postures to work the entire body –with plenty of heart-opening backbends and the opportunity for inversion practices for those that are ready. As in Dharma Mittra’s classes, a light-hearted and secure atmosphere encourages students to challenge themselves and make progress in their practice, which Carlie firmly believes will translate into other aspects of their life.
My training style is... Ambitious. I often find if you imagine yourself mastering a challenging pose before attempting it will be more of a success.
My favourite place in London for a stiff drink is… anywhere I get served a good Espresso Martini!
My ideal breakfast is… blueberry buckwheat pancakes.
My biggest vice is… handstands, handstands, handstands.
