GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU MOVE YOUR FRAME

Instructors

MARIA AGATHANGELOU

What makes your class so f’cking awesome?

My style is upbeat, motivating and energising. Expect super fun sessions to get you fitter and stronger, seriously sweaty and leaving with a smile! I perfect playlists and programmes for each class type. Whether its driving beats for Rebounding, ‘happy place’ tunes for Ass & Abs / 80’s Aerobics or harder tracks to get you in the zone for Box Fit / Train sessions; let the music elevate your experience and performance.

What was your journey to becoming an instructor? How the hell did you get here?

Ever since I was little (although at 4ft10, I still am!), I’ve enjoyed learning new skills through being active. Over the years I’ve trained in various dance styles, athletics, SCUBA diving, martial arts and gymnastics/circus arts. Whilst I was always sporty, I was also very arty and immersed myself in music. However, out of all my interests, I wanted to pursue a career helping people, so I graduated in Psychology from UCL and began working in the mental health sector. I later decided to move into a creative industry and have since worked in design agencies. Bringing brands to life can be exciting, but after years I still felt there was something missing. I wasn’t fulfilled being desk-bound and stressing over what’s not important in the grand scheme of things. Looking for a more meaningful balance, it was time to combine my experience and passions for wellbeing, being active and creativity by becoming a fitness instructor. I took the plunge with a career break to complete my Level 2 Exercise to Music qualification. Since then, I’ve immersed myself in teaching and training. I’ve qualified as a gym instructor, group trainer, specialist in pre & post-natal exercise, and am a Level 3 Personal Trainer pursuing my Level 4 specialisms in Corrective Exercise and Performance Enhancement.

What’s your favourite way to keep a healthy body and a healthy mind?

Learning to do awesome things with my body. My recent focus has been on AcroYoga, handstands and other bodyweight training/callisthenics. I also love spending time with my loved ones and animals.

How does your choice of exercise fit/help your day to day life?

Variety really is the spice of life for me; I get bored easily and being spoilt for choice living in central London, I love to mix things up by trying different classes and studios. It keeps me inspired and challenged, whilst learning from different instructors and approaches.

Guilty pleasure?

I’m always booking onto workshops, courses and trying new things. My credit card isn’t so happy about this, but it keeps me feeling alive.
