Shani Dickins

What makes your class so f’cking awesome?
I play the odd hip hop track which makes Pilates feel more bad ass than it already does. There will definitely be a shake and burn that feels awful at the time but sensational once the endorphins kick in. You might get a little laugh depending on if my jokes are good that day if not you’ll definitely feel at least an inch taller.

What was your journey to becoming an instructor? How the hell did you get here?
After graduating from Contemporary Dance school in 2011 I had no money to pay the bills, I ended up in a 9-5 job that didn’t allow me to dance. A good friend of mine introduced me to Pilates as a great opportunity to keep dancing and afford rent BONUS! Turns out I love teaching Pilates. I did my training back in 2012 in New Zealand and never looked back.

What does your downtime look like?
I’m a homebody, I love pottering about with good snacks and tunes (Rage against the machine and Wu-Tang Clan). Love a bit of Contemporary Dance theatre and film when I leave the house.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
You’ve got to know what’s inside the box to be able to think outside the box.

If you weren’t an Instructor, what would you be??
A costume designer or a car mechanic.
