Frame Academy: 200hr Yoga Teacher Training Programme

Sat in your office twiddling your thumbs, wondering what you’re doing whiling away the hours dreaming of your next downward dog or sleeping swan? Then this could be just what you’re looking for.

Not content with delivering some of the best Yoga classes in London over the past 8 years, Frame launched its first Yoga Teacher Training course in April 2017, with a second intake coming up for October 2017.

We are dedicated to improving the quality and consistency of Teacher Training in the Yoga, Fitness and Pilates Industries. Stay tuned for information on other training courses coming soon.

Say what?
Yup, we offer Yoga Teacher Training! It’s an accredited 200 hour programme led by London-based yoga instructors Michael Wong (you might know him as the founder of global project Boys of Yoga) and Emily-Clare Hill who is a 500 hour advanced teacher. Both are ace at teaching poses and sequencing but also understand yoga as an industry. Read more about them here.

The ‘Anatomy and Physiology’ and ‘Philosophy’ modules will be led by specialists in these areas with support from the lead teachers.

How long is the course?
The Frame Yoga Teacher Training Course is a 200 hour course. The course has been designed so that it is possible to do alongside a full-time job, although please be aware that a lot of home study will be required so you will need to be 100% committed.

The first week of the course is an intensive week, which will require you to take a week off work, and then the course will run Friday evening, all day Saturday and all day Sunday, every other weekend. The final weekend, which will include the final examinations, will run Thursday through to Sunday.

We will also provide you with a mentor at the start of the course so you always have a support system. We will also offer Frame Academy after the initial course. Read on for more info!

Is the course accredited?
Yes, the course is fully accredited with the Yoga Alliance UK. More information can be found here.

The Yoga Alliance UK ensures that both individuals and organisations who are accredited are legitimate and have trained to the highest of standards. This ensures peace of mind to the general public and yoga students when they choose a YAP registered Teacher.

What will the course cover?
Throughout the course, we will cover these topics in depth:

  • History & Philosophy
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Asana, techniques & training
  • Teaching Methodology
  • Assisting
  • Business of Yoga
  • Personal Practicum

The style of teaching for the Frame YTT will be very interactive with a strong practical element. There will also be a strong element of ‘sequencing’ to give you the skills to create intelligent and ‘themed’ sequencing once you begin your career as a yoga teacher.

As part of the course, you will learn the FRAME YOGA FOUNDATIONS and FRAME YOGA FLOW sequences, which will form part of your examination, but with the main focus that these sequences will help you to learn about Vinyasa sequencing so that you can happily take these as starting points and adapt ongoing.

Will I be able to come to Frame classes throughout the YTT?
Yes. Everyone who enrols on the Frame 200 hr YTT will receive 20 yoga classes to use across all Frame studios during the length of the course. This is something that is very specific to our YTT and invaluable to making sure that you fit in as much practice as possible throughout the course.

As Frame is not just about Yoga, all students will also receive 5 FREE non-yoga classes so you can try out other classes at Frame and relate back your learnings on sequencing, playlists, anatomy, and everything else that you’re learning as part of your course, to other genres of exercise.

Tell me more about the mentor programme…
The Frame ethos is that you should continue to grow and learn throughout your time as a teacher, and in order to help you get off on the right foot, everyone on the Frame 200 hr YTT will be matched up with a mentor from the current Frame teaching roster. These Yoga teachers bring with them a wealth of knowledge both in terms of teaching a class to suit the participants, how to create fantastic playlists, how to promote yourself as a teacher and to fill your schedule with classes.

They’ve also all been through exactly what you are about to, and so can be a shoulder to cry on, or someone who’s brains you can pick if you’re feeling a little bit lost or unsure of what direction you want to take.

You will be introduced to your mentor at the beginning of the programme and encourage to have regular catch ups with them throughout the course and ongoing as you start your journey as a teacher.

What is the FRAME YTT Academy Programme?
Everyone who passes the Frame 200 hr YTT will automatically get a place on the Frame YTT Academy programme which will help you to get from a newly qualified Yoga Teacher, to one who is ready to teach classes in our Frame studios, or other top quality studios.

As part of the Academy programme, you will be required to shadow / assist a minimum of 10 classes with our selected group of teachers. At this point, once your 10 sessions have been signed off (and you have used your mentor as a sounding board) you will be guaranteed a trial to teach at one of the Frame studios. We have such a strong Yoga Teacher contingent that this is not something that is very easy to come by.

You will also get the chance to purchase a FRAME YTT YOGA PASS at 50% of the standard rate (throughout training and during post-grad programme).

How often does the course run?
We will be aiming to have two intakes for the course each year. This year’s two course intakes are April and October 2017.

Further dates are yet to be confirmed. To keep up to date, fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page or email

What style of yoga is taught?
As part of the History and Philosophy modules, we will be touching on the majority of the ancient and modern-day styles of yoga. However, the majority of the course is focused on a Vinyasa style of yoga, with the sequencing based around this. This course will give you a the ability to teach the Frame Yoga Sequences also with the knowledge and understating of postures and sequencing to create your own well balanced Vinyasa Flow classes. The repertoire of postures covered will give you the ability to teach both dynamic and more calm flow classes.

How is the course material delivered?
Teaching methods include: lectures, experiential classes, small and large group work, practice teaching time and individual homework and exercises to encourage in depth learning and discovery.

90% of the 200hr YTT will be live contact hours with your Teachers and Mentors, whilst 10% is personal study and practice.

Do I need to live in London?
Not necessarily, but all contact hours will be in Central London, so you’ll need to find your own accommodation for the intensive week at the beginning, and all weekends following.

Is it possible to work full time alongside the training?
Absolutely. Many of our students work full time and/or have families. The majority of the contact hours on the training take place over weekends, including Friday evenings. You will need to take one full week holiday for the intensive week at the beginning of the course and a long weekend at the end of it.

How much homework is there?
The Frame 200 hr YTT is a combination of continuous assessment, practical and written examinations. After each module, reading and small amounts of written work are set. Towards the end of the training, there are slightly longer pieces of work in each subject area to complete. We would suggest that you schedule in between 5 – 10 hours a week for reading and homework in addition to attendance at all the pre-set in studio sessions.

How much practice will I be expected to do throughout the course?
We recommend that you begin regular classes (a minimum of 2x per week) with teachers approved by the course tutors. In addition, it is strongly recommended that you begin self-practice at home. This will enable you to experiment creatively, question and work toward integrating what you learn in class. Ultimately, this training is about you discovering your own understanding of yoga and teaching from your personal experience. To do this effectively requires self-practice, contemplation, meditation, acquired knowledge and experience.

As a requirement of the training students must attend a minimum 20 hours of taught classes at Frame as part of the course (these are included in the price of your course).

What happens if I miss a module?
You will not be able to graduate from the course until you complete all the modules. If you do miss any module than you will need to agree a catch-up plan with your instructor, which will be charged at £100/hour (this can be split between the number of students needing to repeat this module).

Students are not allowed to miss more than one module. If you know you will miss more, it is advised that you do not enroll on the course until you can commit to the time.

I have particular learning needs, is support available?
Please contact us to discuss any specific learning needs before applying for the course. We will do all we can to support your needs.

Where does the training take place?
The majority of training modules take place at Frame’s Queens Park studio. On rare occasions modules may also take place at our other London locations, or in a hired studio in Zone 1 or 2.

How much does the course cost?
The Frame 200 hr YTT is £2,800. For the October 2017 intake, we have an Early Bird discount rate for all sign ups made before 8th July 2017 of £2,500.

Course fees include all tuition, mentoring, course manuals + handouts.

A suggested reading list is listed below and these books will need to be bought in addition to the course fees:

A non-refundable deposit of £500 is required on sign up. The remaining amount can be split between payments on 1st July and 1st August 2017. If you sign up after 1st September, the balance will all be due at the time of signing up.
On signing up, you will be given a schedule of payments. All payments will be made through Go Cardless, via the link emailed to you.

Please factor in transport, accommodation (if required) and food/ drinks costs for the duration of the course.

Do you take on everyone who applies?
Applicants will be accepted on a first come first served basis, on the basis that they will all have passed the application criteria (a minimum of 2 years practising yoga).

How many students do you take on the course?
We take a maximum of 24 new students onto each intake.

What level yoga practitioner do I need to be?

2 years of personal study is highly recommended before undertaking this course. It is strongly suggested that students ready to take the next step into teaching, will first have a serious and dedicated personal practice.

What if I’m not super flexible, and my inversions aren’t perfect? Can I still apply?
Absolutely! Though we are looking for students who have an established, serious practice, we know and understand that all bodies are different. We will be looking at your intention toward practice and how you work with your body as it is now. More importantly, we consider your potential for growth and development as a dedicated practitioner and teacher.

What benefits do I get as a Frame YTT Student?
Frame YTTs receive 20 free Yoga classes during the training period, with 5 free passes for any other classes at Frame.

All successful trainees who pass the exams will then automatically graduate onto the Frame YTT Academy Programme, after which you are guaranteed a trial for a place on the timetable at one of Frame’s studios.

You will also get the chance to purchase a FRAME YTT YOGA PASS – at 50% of the standard rate (throughout training and during post-grad programme).

What happens if I get injured?
In difficult circumstances e.g. injury, the Frame Academy administration team and course tutors will try to be as flexible as possible and support you to work out the best way forward. Subject to prior consultation with the course tutors and a fully qualified medical practitioner, if you suffer an injury you may come to sessions and adjust the poses to suit your condition or observe as is appropriate.

Our intention always is to try to find ways of helping students complete the training on the intake originally applied for. However, we understand that there may be some instances where it is not possible to continue and a deferral to another intake may be necessary.

What happens if I want to leave the course?
We will do our utmost to help all students who may be experiencing difficulties either with the training or in other areas of their life, to be able to complete the teacher training programme. However, we understand that in some circumstances this is not possible and students have no choice other than to leave the programme. In the unfortunate case that this was to happen, we will be unable to graduate you from the training and your course fees for the remainder of the training are still due unless an exemption applies.

When can I start teaching yoga?
Once you have passed the Frame 200 hr YTT and hold a valid first aid certificate and insurance through the Yoga Alliance UK, you will be covered to start teaching classes.

We encourage students to start teaching friends and family as soon as possible, as practice is key and the more practise you have, the more confident a teacher you will become.

We believe that you will still have lots to learn, even once the course is finished, which is why we have devised the Frame YTT Academy Programme, to give you access to great teachers to shadow so you can practise assisting.
Included in the course is a module on The Business of Yoga, which is aimed to give you the skills to build a successful career in the yoga industry. In this module you will cover the process from becoming a new graduate to a fully-fledged Yoga teacher!

Where can I work after I’ve graduated?
You will be ready to apply to start teaching in yoga studios, gyms, church halls, community centres or anywhere else where yoga teachers are required.

You may chose to go on additional courses to develop more specific skills, for e.g. Pregnancy Yoga, Yoga for Children, Meditation, Yin Yoga or Hot Yoga.
There are opportunities for our very best graduates to teach classes at Frame and to become part of our Mentor Programme for the following intake. We can also offer many corporate, promotional and large-scale event opportunities.
