5 reasons to move first thing

By Cesca

Habit stacking

Exercising first thing in the morning when the rest of the world is still asleep means you’re more likely to stick to it. Fewer distractions from last-minute work emails or phone calls from friends persuading you to go for that drink. Pack your bag the night before so you can brush your teeth and head straight out the door.

Better decision making

Working out first thing gives your brain a boost. A brisk walk or moderate-intensity exercise in the morning has been shown to improve cognitive performance – meaning better decision making, attention and concentration. So you could say that morning class is literally life-changing.

Energy Boost

It’s easy to kid yourself that snoozing through your alarm for the 5th time is going to make you feel less tired for the day. In fact, you’re likely to feel 65% less fatigued after moving your body in the morning. Working out with other people also raises your energy levels and you’ll benefit from them for the rest of the day.

Deeper sleep

Nailing your morning routine is a great way to keep your circadian rhythm in check. This means you’re more likely to get a deep, restorative sleep once your head hits the pillow. Getting the recommended 8 hours of kip will also make getting out of bed for morning exercise more enjoyable.

Feel smug AF

If we could bottle that post-morning class feeling we’d be giving Jeff Bezo’s a run for his money… The feeling of achievement that you get after you’ve smashed your morning workout is priceless.
