Meet Robin! she loves a short spine and is the queen of slow counting to guarantee no muscle goes un worked!

She loves a short spine and is the queen of slow counting to guarantee that you get total bang for your buck with every single exercise!

What was your journey to becoming a Pilates instructor?

I’ve always had a love of sport: From skiing to badminton, netball to tennis – so when a friend suggested I try mat Pilates as a complementary form of exercise, I was on it! Once I discovered the Reformer though, seven years ago, I fell in love and packed my mat away. In fact, I loved it so much that within months of attending classes at Frame I decided to train to become an instructor – in my previous life I was a data analyst and when the opportunity arose to do the reformer training in-house with Frame I jumped at the chance.

Finish this sentence - I love Pilates because…

…it’s for everybody and every body

Describe your teaching style in 3 words

Challenging, controlled, focussed – can I have a 4th?  – fun

Best feedback/review you’ve ever received

I can’t choose between these two:-

“Robin is amazing! I love the slower pace of her class and that it still gives maximum burn

“She has such great attention to detail and really focuses to make sure everyone has the correct form. Really difficult class but in the best way!”

What’s your go-to Reformer move and WHY?

Short spine.  It looks simple, but is – according to the BASI (Body, Arts & Science International) style of teaching – an intermediate move, which means that it has a level of difficulty associated with it.  To bring the carriage all the way to the stopper before rolling up, keep the tension in the straps when rolling onto the shoulders and keep the pelvis and spine completely still when bending the knees and bringing the thighs parallel to the floor whilst fully engaging the back extensors takes focus and control: In fact this move encompassed all of Joseph Pilates’ principles – Breath, Concentration, Control, Precision, Centring and Flow.

What do you get up to when you’re not teaching Pilates?

I’m doing Pilates!  I might be an instructor, but I am forever a student and have recently been studying the comprehensive repertoire so that I can teach all pieces of the Pilates equipment – including the Wunda Chair, Cadillac and Ladder Barrel. Aside from all things Pilates I like eating, drinking cocktails and wine, dancing, cycling, reading, holidaying and pub quizzing – who doesn’t love a music round?!

The one thing you wish people knew about Pilates…

…that it’s not yoga!

Besides from your fabulous self - who are your favourite Frame Pilates teachers and why?

Lily Juniper. Suzi Power. Ben Stott.  They’re fabulous and deadly!
